We are in between….

What do I mean by that? Simply put, just what I said. We are in between the time of Jesus’ resurrection and His ascension around Pentecost forty days later. Yes, I do realize that we live in the 21st century and it has been about two millennia since He was around, but what other person in history has had such an impact on the world?

The Bible itself has had a tremendous impact because many laws that are in many different countries are actually based upon principles taken from Scripture. Then, Jesus came and changed many things so much that the priests of the day wanted to get rid of Him. Mainly because He was cutting into their profits and His teachings gave power to the people and took it away from them. That kind of change was just blasphemous!

Even today, many who don’t want to change rebel against any sort of teaching that comes from a church. It seems that many people think that they can do it themselves. They think that they are responsible enough to handle all of life’s problems and they don’t need Jesus or God, so they choose not to believe in them and choose science and reason instead.

That is fine for now, but what will you think when you come face to face with Him and instead of welcoming you into eternity, He is your judge showing you why you don’t get to spend it in Heaven. At this point, there will be nothing for you to do except bow and say that you were wrong. Many people even think that they will argue with Him, but you won’t because it was and it is your choice in this life and it is this choice which will condemn you to hell, not God.

So, believing in Him is something that many already do especially the demons and Satan himself. Whether you choose to or not is your choice but don’t blame God for your eternity, because He gave you a choice of believing in Jesus for your salvation. The work of your salvation didn’t and does not depend upon anything that you do except that you must come to Jesus in faith. If you hear the truth of His grace to you and you may have read the words in the Gospels, then the choice is yours.

No one forces you to become a Christian. There may be a feeling in your heart that you need Jesus, but if you interpret it as something else then you might miss it. Seek Him out while you can. There are Bible’s available, there are resources in your library although I am not sure that is the place to look for a Bible.

Read the New Testament, in particular Acts and Romans, because these two books chronicle the beginning of the church itself. Pray about what you read so that God can reveal Himself to you in His Word. Time is growing short, be watchful and pray.

What’s up?

This is a very popular way of greeting today, but have you ever thought about what you would answer with? Many of us don’t really think about it. In a way, we treat it like we do when someone asks us, “How are you doing?”. We usually answer with “Fine” or “OK”, even when we really don’t feel that way at all!

So, what’s up with our world today? Everything seems to be upside down in a bad way. Tiger Woods is hitting the golf balls all over the place, while Jack Nicholas is still hitting a hole in one! The news that we hear is depressing, and yet almost every newscaster is smiling. It is almost like they know something that we don’t but they aren’t going to tell us the joke until it is too late. So, what is the one thing that is actually happening in the world around us? Is it something which people are really paying attention to or is everyone ignoring it?

In fact, it seems that most are doing exactly that…ignoring what is going on. They are living their lives, going about everyday business and busyness and just not paying much attention to the world in general. That is not helping you nor is it giving anyone hope for tomorrow either. Is it possible to live your life from day-to-day and then just die? Yes, people do it every day! But, what did they accomplish in the time that they had? It depends upon their view of the world, their culture and their beliefs but not necessarily in that order.

Your beliefs actually shape your view of the world and the beliefs of your family shapes your culture, so in this area of life it is your beliefs which are actually more important, not only to you and your family but to the world at large. In fact, there are many more people who believe in different ways than you do especially if you are a Christian. Oops, I let it out. The one word that will either scare people away or get them so angry they will stop reading right here.

I never have been able to understand why being a Christian, one that believes in the Bible and its message as well as the Savior as He is presented in its pages, is so repulsive to so many people. Is it because the Word of God is spoken of as the Truth and nobody wants to hear it or believe it? On the news, everyone that is against Christianity says it’s because of the exclusivity and intolerant views which Christians have.

Okay, so let’s try something different. That is what most people seem to want these days. If every person on the planet were to do exactly what they want to do, regardless of the consequences, what would the world be like?

It would not be a world that many people would like to live in. Anarchy would be rampant and the law enforcement would be so busy until they would likely feel like just throwing up their hands and walking away. Then what would we do? Some would be crying out to God for help and relief in this terrible situation. Some would be looking for a man who might have all of the answers to these problems, but there is no such person in power…yet. This man, which all of us crazy Christians call the Antichrist, is likely alive today but it isn’t time for him yet.

God is in control of this world whether you believe in Him or not. He is also watching out for Israel and keeping Satan from running amok in our time, at least until it is the right time. Yes, God is in control so, like it or not, that is how our world runs…on God’s time and because of Him. We are here to be caretakers and messengers, we are not here to be rulers. During your lifetime and mine we live our lives as examples to our children and grandchildren and they really do watch you and listen to you, whether they act like it or not.

If you don’t believe me, say something wrong in front of a little child one day. Sooner or later they will repeat it word for word in front of you or someone you know. We have to be better than that, especially if we are Christians. Not because we are trying to brag about it, but because if we don’t tell people about Jesus then we aren’t being true to our calling and our claim of our faith.

Life….

Life is hard by the yard,
but by the inch,
it’s a cinch. Author — Gean Gordon

What would be your take on this bit of advice? It is true, by the way. Most anything is easily done if you do it a little bit at a time–consistently. Even saving money is easy when you do it a little bit at a time, though it takes a while to save up much that way. In a way, this is another take on the old Chinese proverb about “A journey of one thousand miles begins with the first step”. Everything in life works this way to some extent except when it comes to tolerance between races or between Christians and non-Christians.

It seems that tolerance is one of those all or nothing things which people have begun to use against each other. It seems that everyone wants Christians to love them regardless of what they say or do, which most of us actually do by the way. But today, they also want us to support their habit or lifestyle and tell everyone else that we go along with it as well, even when it goes against God’s laws and the teaching found in the Bible!

When Christians ask for a little respect for our beliefs and the way that we live, it seems that nobody wants to go down that road at all! Its like Christians, like me, are supposed to be the ones who change our thinking, our lives, our tolerance and support of sinful living and lifestyles instead of the other way around! In truth, at least it is supposed to be this way, it really isn’t our personal opinion one way or the other which is against your lifestyle and the sins which we teach or preach, it is just what the Word of God says.

If a preacher or teacher isn’t preaching from the Word and the whole counsel of it, then I would be suspect of his teaching! It is God that is Holy and He can’t tolerate sin, yet He sent His Son to pay the price for ALL of our sins so that we don’t have to IF we repent of those behaviors and follow His teaching and His ways. By doing this and praying for His guidance and direction, we can come to God through the power of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and God sees the righteousness of Jesus instead of our sins.

Life tolerates others only as long as the they get along, no matter what “species” they are. Today, we try to divide ourselves up into different “races” of people. We are all culturally different from each other, not racially different. We belong to the human race, Homo sapiens and there isn’t another race of humans on this planet! Different colors of skin and eyes and hair color and texture and many different cultures from all areas of the world, even different cultures from one side of a city to another! Still ONE race! Like it or not, it cannot and will not be changed!

What do you think?

You know, sometimes people seem to be lost in thought and yet they aren’t really thinking of much. You just stare out at the world around you and you are seeing but not really noticing anything. You are hearing things going on around you but you aren’t actually paying attention to them. My teachers in school called it “daydreaming”, I think of it as checking out of the world. Sorta like having your mind and everything on pause. You are there physically, but you are not actually engaged in the world around you.

This is how I would like to spend the day, but most days I really can’t. There is just too much that needs to get done and on most days that means that I am the one that needs to do it, regardless of how I feel.

It seems that many people feel this way because I see their posts on Facebook and they are essentially saying these exact words. Why do we have days like this?

I think it is because of the condition of the world itself. Not so much of the Earth, but the people who live here. Days like this and being dazed like this are not uncommon but it does give you an excuse for not doing much during your daze.

God allows those days for contemplation and for daydreams. Why would God do such a thing? How do you think that David came up with all of those poems that are right in the middle of the Bible? Many of them were written while he was tending sheep or while he was running away from Saul. I think some of them were the direct result of a day of daydreaming.

If you have given your heart to Jesus, spend a little time in a daze daydreaming but also seeking Him while doing it. We all need to do this occasionally, just to pause the day or our activity and give our body and mind a chance to catch up or reset. Give it a try, just as long as you aren’t thinking of something really destructive, it might solve a problem or help with one.

Just a thought.

Consider….

Consider life and how it flows through time.

Consider your life and where it may go in time.

Consider love and what will become of it in time.

Consider our society and what it will become…in time.

Consider your family and what will happen to them…in time.

Consider your nation and what it may look like in time. Will it still be a nation?

Consider the world and what may happen in it in the future of our time.

Consider your future. Where will you spend eternity at that time?

Just…consider the possibilities for all of these, then decide if there is one of them that you can have an influence on.

The last one on the list is the only one that you can really have an impact on and it hinges upon one decision. That decision is whether you believe in Jesus and His atonement for your life and sins and whether you have accepted Him as Savior or not.

That’s it.

Live your life …

image

An image of your DNA from the end. As intricate and complex as it is, God created each of us with His image as the template and your purpose as the outcome. But, I have seen some people speaking about the life of Jesus or rather that His life never was. Your belief or lack thereof is your own and I respect that, but it is my right to believe what I believe.

I am not sure if any of you have read Foxes Book of Martyrs but if you get the chance to do so, you will see through the descriptions from history how Christians have suffered for their beliefs. Truly, these people wouldn’t have suffered through this torture and persecution if their faith was in a lie. True, their faith may have been misplaced if He didn’t live BUT the Word of God is the absolute Truth so He did live and He still does.

The intricate and complex composition of our DNA is not something which came about by accident as some believe. God is the Architect of the Universe as well as our Creator. He is the Artist which placed the stars in their places and He put the nucleotides together which make up each one of us. He knows you and me much better than we know ourselves and better than our parents too.

God knew you and me before He set the foundation of our world and what our life would be too. Since He lives in an area which is outside of Time itself, He can see the beginning and the end of Time at the same instant and He knows what is happening and why. Regardless of your belief in Him or not, He is God just as gravity or light exist without your input or belief so does He.

The part that I think which gives people a hard time is belief in something or someone who they cannot see or touch. The problem that I have with that is that Satan, Buddha and Muhammad are all dead (with the exception of Satan) and you can’t see or touch any of them, yet people believe in their religions and never get offended by them it seems. But, when you mention that you are a Christian and believe in Jesus and His resurrection and forgiveness for all it seems that everyone gets offended before you say anything else!

God gives each of us a choice, just as He did for the angels in Heaven. They are created beings just as we are and they have a choice to serve Him or not. Thousands of years ago, some of them chose not to and were kicked out of Heaven during the rebellion of Satan against God.

It is our choice of whether we will be servants of Christ or choose to serve our own selfish wants and needs which condemns us to separation from God. It doesn’t matter what sins that you have done in your lifetime, how many people who you have hurt or killed or any other sin which comes to mind, the act of turning away from the gift of grace through Jesus and choosing not to accept Him as your Savior is the ONE sin which places you in the company of demons.

Good Friday, what is good about it?

At some point, I am sure that some have asked that very question. What is good about this day? What makes it “Good Friday”? First, it is the belief that Jesus was crucified on this day, although how you fit three days between today and Sunday for His resurrection I am not sure. Why would the crucifixion of our Savior make a day good? Another point to answer that would be that without His crucifixion, there could be no forgiveness of sins extended and offered to the whole world because of His death.

Why was His death necessary? Because He had to be resurrected from death in order to conquer death and the grave. I mean, you can’t come out of a grave unless you have been put into it, right?

All of this came to be, not because of a rebellion that Jesus started, not because He was inciting people to revolt against Roman rule although many wanted Him to do just that, it didn’t even happen because priests were afraid of Him and His power although that did have a part in it. The whole plan had been put into place at the point where Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden. When God told them that “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.” Genesis 3:15
Jesus’ life and death was foretold that far back in order to take care of the sin that had come into the world and many other prophecies between that time and Good Friday happened as well. The “woman” in that first prophecy was a symbol of many things. Not only was it a symbol of a mother, but she was a symbol or type of Israel and the Jewish people too. She also symbolized humanity, because God was not speaking of a serpent as a snake, He was speaking to Satan who had inhabited the snake to entice her and tempt her. Satan hates humanity simply because God loves us, that is where the enmity comes from.

Anything which he can do to destroy or hurt us, as humans, he will do. Whether it is by violence, war, diseases, famines, murder or any of a number of ways that he and his cohorts can bring to bear on us in order to hurt that which God loves, he will do it. Especially if he can keep us from accepting Jesus as our Savior, ultimately that is his number one goal!

Christ conquered death, hell and the grave as well as paid the price for all of man’s sins with His death and resurrection. God offers us the grace through Jesus to accept Him as our Savior to become joint heirs with Him in God’s Kingdom. It is a gift offered from God, all we have to do is ask for it and accept it in order to have it! What makes that so difficult? If someone offered to pay off all of your debts and give you ten million dollars also, would you refuse it just because you didn’t have to work for it? Of course not, so why do we refuse to accept the gift of eternal life with Him when we are given the option?

We don’t have to do anything to get it. Though, in return we do work for Him after we truly accept who we are in Christ. Nobody forces you to do anything, but it is not cool if you have accepted Jesus at one point in your life and then turn back to your sinful ways of living. Yes, you can do this but it is wrong. Why? Because you are witnessing to people with your life and telling them that you can get a free ride into Heaven. Just accept Jesus and then go on with your life as if you had not accepted Him. Wrong!!

If your heart is changed by Him, really changed, then you won’t go back to your old way of living as a sinner. you will be grateful for the pardon that you received from God and then tell as many people as you can about Him! Pray about this, read God’s Word and ask Him to show you what to do and then DO IT!!!

Why should we?

Every newscast seems to be saying the same thing. That Christians are supposed to support and go along with the agenda that is being put forward by a certain lobbying group. Actually, the Bible says that we are to step back away from you and not get involved at all.

What God considers to be an abomination, we aren’t supposed to condone or accept. Why should we? If you can’t accept our beliefs, whether we agree with your lifestyle or not, who is being intolerant? According to our rights as Americans, we have the right to believe and worship any way that we please.

But, today it seems that we are labelled as haters because we actually believe the words contained in the Bible. It is not our opinion about you one way or the other, it is God’s hatred of the sinful life that you want us to accept! How would the Muslims treat you? I have heard that they are killing homosexuals. At least we aren’t condoning that!

I love you as a person, just as God does. But, it is the sin that is in your life and your lifestyle which He won’t accept. He will forgive you, IF you turn away from it and follow Him in repentance. No one can keep sinning willingly and on purpose and serve God as a Christian too, if your heart and soul has been changed on the inside then it will show to the world that you have truly changed.

I don’t think of myself as perfect, I am far from that! Yes, I stumble and fall, and say things or think something I shouldn’t, but my spirit or the Holy Spirit will convict me of it. Then I determine to repent of it and ask forgiveness. God loves you far more than you will ever realize until you come to Him and repent, asking Jesus into your heart to change you into the person that you should be and can be for Christ.

Love, where does it come from?

Many people wonder about love and today consider that this word is just…a word. It doesn’t mean anything, it has no depth for many people. It is just a simple, four letter word and nothing more. Where does this sort of thinking come from? Why is it so denigrated and down-played from the meaning that it is given in God’s Word?

Mainly because people don’t see love today as the same as what is talked about in the Bible. We have been using the word, LOVE, as a stand-in for lust for so long until it has lost its real meaning. Nobody sees it being acted upon or toward people in the same way that Jesus told us that we are supposed to do. We are supposed to love each other as we love ourselves, but very few people do this today.

Everyone is out to get what they can get and as much as they can get for themselves. Its like the world is populated by millions if not billions of spoiled brats!

I am not saying that stuff is bad but the constant search for and chasing after more toys is idiotic. Nothing that you gain in this life materially gives you much satisfaction except for a brief moment when you are using it for the first few times. Then, just like most children, it becomes old and it just doesn’t fill the void that you wanted filled. At which point you are off to find something else.

Our search for something to fill that void in our lives is not a pursuit which is limited to young or old, rich or poor or middle class. It is something which we feel when we get to a certain age and realize that there is something that is missing. At which point we begin to search for it and depending upon our resources (money), we look in all sorts of places and seek out fulfilment in more and better things.

We will look at new cars or homes or games or guns, then sometimes we seek out new friends or relationships or even new gadgets like an iPad or tablets or phones and computers. Today, the selection is nearly endless yet we still have trouble finding just the right combination or specific person or thing which will fill that void. We will never find it until we begin searching for the One which can fill that place of empty feeling.

That is Jesus Christ. In life, we only have a small amount of time. It could be twenty years or thirty, it might be sixty or even ninety or one hundred years, but when you compare that time with, say one hundred thousand years, isn’t it tiny? God created us all with an immortal spirit or soul and that part of us continues on when this life ends. Your acceptance of Jesus places you on the path into Heaven with Him and that life will never end.

If you choose to hear or listen to a message about being saved by belief in Jesus and then walk away, deciding that you will live the way you want to live because your idea of God would not do that to someone. Your idea of God would not punish you in hell for not accepting His Son as Savior. It won’t be your idea that judges you! It will be God Himself and it is not His decision which will place you in hell, it is yours!

Even a child can understand the Love of God that was given to all of us through Jesus and His death and resurrection, but if you choose to turn away from the offer of grace which God gives you by that love then it is your choice. It will be your choice which condemns you to hell, not God.

Are we any good?

Bad things don’t happen to good people because good people don’t exist.

There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10 NIV)

I’m not trying to condemn anyone to hell, you do that all by yourself. I’m just trying to show you that it’s not all about you or me, it’s about Him. When your focus is directed at yourself, you forget to leave room for God.

Even though I was acting like a Christian, I was not a good person. To “sin” is to miss God’s mark. Sin is anything opposite of what God wants us to do. Even though everything I did was technically “pleasing to God” I still used it for my own pursuit for happiness. I am still a sinner, the only difference now is that my sins are covered by the blood of Jesus.

If Jesus is our role model then we should try to be Christ-like…right? I mean, that is what Christian actually means you know? Well try to compare your good deeds with what Jesus did. I’m sorry, but it’s an unfair match. People can’t seem to believe that He was able to be human and God too and many Christians don’t believe it, but He was and He is! Jesus’ mother, Mary, was human which we all know something about. His Father is God, so He didn’t have the “sin seed” if you will, which was passed down from Adam.

People do good things, but good people don’t exist. Yes, there are many people who are “playing church”, doing all the accepted things and trying to be “good Christians”. But, on their own and with their own strength they can’t do it, no one can!

Christ set the example for us, and our goal is to be like Him, but we will never reach the likeness of Christ. I’m sorry…but if we became like Christ, then we would consider ourselves to be a god. The only point in your life that you will be truly Christ-like is after you reach Heaven. You can try to follow the Holy Spirit to the best of your ability during this life, but unless you are depending upon Him every minute of every day…every day, you won’t be able to. You can come close, but the fullness of our holiness won’t be bestowed upon us until we are in His Presence.

So that leaves us where we are now. We are sinners, but if you have Christ in your heart then you are a sinner saved by His grace!

Our goal is to achieve Christ-likeness, but Paul says there’s no such thing as a good person. Until we are changed by Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit from the inside out, we are just us, each of us is a sinner because of the sin-nature that mankind inherited from Adam.

God shows us His ultimate righteousness to create an urgency of dependence towards Him. The Holy Spirit deals with our spirit on the basis of holiness and shows us just how unrighteous we really are. That is where we break down and cry out to God.

God made us all equal. Matthew 20:1-16 shows us that (stop what you’re doing and read this parable). Don’t focus on what you deserve. We all deserve the same wage, the wage of death, because we all have sinned (Romans 3:23 & 6:23). You’re a sinner, so am I. No one’s perfect. That’s why I lean on Jesus every day. The trials of my life have already been conquered by Him. We are no longer bound to our sin through Jesus. We are conquerors by His power and the Holy Spirit and we are able to overcome the temptations through Him.

The truth about us is not based on our deeds, our performance, our past, our present, and our resumes. The truth about us is defined by the gospel and our dependence on Him. It’s time to give up our false selfless ambitions and align our hearts with God’s will in our lives. We all need to work on this, I’m learning just as much as you. Keep seeking out God through His Word. Look for Him in your daily life in small victories and big ones. He will give you that victory over whatever is in your life if you will lean on and trust in Him!
