Conviction, what is it?


I asked a question a few days ago about what is hell, now I am asking about conviction. What is it? I am not talking about being convicted of a crime such as in a court of law. I am talking about being convicted by the Holy Spirit. Have you ever felt that? Have you felt it during a sermon at a church? If you did, why didn’t you give your heart to Jesus and allow Him to come to live in your heart and your life?

Think about it. Conviction of doing something that is wrong or sinful brings you to the point of knowing that something needs to change and that something is your life-style. Give up drinking and smoking and having sex outside of a married relationship with a person of the opposite sex. Why am I being so specific about this? Because there are too many people who don’t think that this is important. Because there are too many people who don’t believe that the Bible is the Truth of God and the Word of God. If it isn’t the Truth, then I am mistaken and I am wrong.

But, what if the Bible is the Truth and the Words in it are True? If it is, then everything that I have said is just as true because I preach this every Sunday in church and I preach it from God’s Word, the Bible. Yes, it is true and it is God’s Word. There is no denying this, although many people do. So how can we possibly get past the conviction of the Holy Spirit?

We can’t, actually. If you have felt it or maybe are feeling it but don’t know what to do about it, here is a hint: Don’t turn away from it! God wants you for a reason, that is why you are feeling this conviction. If the Creator needs you, don’t run away from Him because you can’t. It doesn’t work. Jonah tried it, I tried it too but eventually God will manage to get your attention and get you back where He needs you to be.

Give your heart to Jesus and ask Him to show you how to live and what He wants from you and He will. The Lord is gracious and loves all of us, He will answer a prayer for wisdom and knowledge especially if you are wanting to do what He is calling you to do.

Do you know that God loves you?


He loves you in such a DEEP and intimate way until you cannot fathom exactly how much He truly does love you! Satan and the world at large try to tell you that God doesn’t care about you or anything that goes on in or on this Earth, but He honestly does. I mean, honestly, do you think that He would’ve allowed His Son to die for you or me or the rest of humanity if He didn’t love us?

You may not believe in God or in His Son, but God does love you. Why? Because God IS LOVE! He can’t help but love His creation and you and I are a part of that! Yes, there are many people in this world who don’t believe and may never believe in Him or His Son and truly that is too bad. There is nothing that I can do or say that will change their minds and unless they feel or hear the call to their heart from Him and answer it, they will never know Him. The problem is that they will blame Him for it when it is their decision to believe or not!

Can anything be done to prove to anyone that God exists? No, not really. People in our world are deceived by their eyes and by science and by Satan, although many don’t think that he exists either. I have met many who don’t want to change their minds, even if you could prove God’s existence. But…one day they will meet Him. Because we will all stand before Him and give account for our lives and the deeds done by us..each word, each syllable uttered that was hurtful or may have caused a child to disbelieve in God. Every action that we did in life, if it was not covered by the blood of Jesus, will be accounted for.

When you are not a child of God what are you exactly? You are a human being just like everyone else, regardless of the color of your skin or the culture that you grew up in. God knows this because He knows you! He knows exactly where you…each of us is at any time, no matter how dark the place may be or if you feel that God is not in this place, He is. God loves you no matter where you might be, all that you need to do is allow Him into your life.

He will not push or poke His way into your life, you may feel a tug at your heart when you hear a sermon but unless you answer that call it will be unanswered until the next time. If you close your mind and your heart to God though and decide for yourself that it isn’t worth giving your life to Him, He may stop calling and just allow you to be the way that you want to be. Grace is available to all but unless you make the decision to let Jesus into your life it won’t happen.

Jesus came and died on a cross and rose again so that we all could have eternal life but we have to believe in Him and in the fact that it is His blood that purifies your sinful life before God. You can’t do it, Muhammed can’t do it, Buddha can’t do it…there is no other person or priest who can pray for you and absolve you of your sins. Jesus is the only way…the only Shepherd that can bring you into eternity.

Believe it or not, it won’t matter whether you are a good person and have given your life to doing good things or maybe you have given thousands of dollars to charity to feed the poor and the sick and disabled. These are all wonderful things to do, but unless you are a Christian and have the love of Jesus in your life and you did them for His glory and not your own…they don’t mean anything.

People will think well of you for doing this but it will have no lasting significance, no eternal reward for you because it was done for your recognition and not for God’s glory! He will enhance your life and your eternity with His love and His grace and He will help you to be more of what you are supposed to be in Him and through Him. Think about it and seek Him!

God’s character


He is El Shaddai (The Almighty)
He is El Olam (The Everlasting God)
He is El Ohiym (The Strong One)
He is Adonai (Master)
He is Yahweh Shalom (The Lord is Peace)
He is Jehovah-Rapha (The Lord Who Heals)
He is Jehovah-Hoseenu (The Lord our Maker)

These are the names of God..the names of our Lord, but you know He also occupies places in your life that are important as well.
He is our Deliverer. He is our Rock and our Fortress.
He is our King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
He is our Saviour. He is the One Who Sees our troubles and carries us through them.
He is our Creator. He is the I AM. He is our Rod and our Staff.
He is our Healer and Protector.
He is our Shepherd and our Friend.
He is our Father in Heaven.

God is all of these. Jesus is all of these. The two of them and the Holy Spirit make up the Trinity and they are One. They rule over the universe and watch over all of our lives and our troubles as well as our fears and our heartaches. God is all that you or I will ever need, even when we have nothing that this world calls wealth, we are rich in Him. When we realize this and begin to act like it, then the world will see it and want what we have because they will know that it was not bought with money. It was given to us by God Himself and nobody can take it away.

Yes, I admit that I have been very deeply depressed for over a month. I have thought of ending my life. I have felt worthless and useless but God has been with me through it all. I have cried out to Him and I have yelled at Him. I have cussed and fussed about the way that I feel and asked Him why do I feel this way? Through it all, He let me rage and fuss. He allowed me to vent and cuss and then ask forgiveness for what I had said. I am not finished with my depressed state because it is not something that goes away like a cold or the flu. Unfortunately, it is what our society calls a disease of the mind. They used to put you in the mental hospital for it and depending upon how bad you are, they still do. But…I am not there yet.

The point that I had to make today is this: God never leaves you where you are, no matter what you are doing or what may be wrong in your life. He is always there with you, holding you in His hand. Giving you strength and comforting you like a child, which we are. But, He is also very patient with His children as well. His patience is far greater than ours and it goes deeper, like His love for us, than we can comprehend. God cannot do anything to you or for you except through love because that is His character and His being. That is why we can’t understand it, because we can’t love that deeply or completely and yet the love expressed between a man and woman and their children is as close as we can get in this life to it. If you haven’t given yourself to Him, please do it before it is too late. Because once this life is over, you don’t get another chance to make it right. Think about that, please?

Consider the names of God


He is El Shaddai (The Almighty)

God is all of these. He has been for eternity and will be for eternity. We do not have to wonder if He is because…He is. God is able. God is the Holy Spirit. God is Adonai…our Master and Lord. All of these are true, but do we accept them when we become Christians? Do we truly realize exactly Who we are dealing with or even praying to?

In our daily lives, whether we are Christians or not, do we ever come to grasp that it is this Presence, this Person Who came and died for each of our sins and then rose from the grave to conquer death and prove that we will also? If we allow Him into our lives and into our hearts so that He can cleanse us from our previous Earthly selves and change us…each one of us into a new Creature in Christ. This is the message that Jesus wants us to take to the world. This is the testimony that we have to let others know about by telling them in some way, because if we don’t tell them…who will?

Sure, there are books and Bibles and tapes. There are DVD’s and CD’s that people can listen to, but did you listen to them? Did you hear or see those messages before your heart was broken into thousands of pieces? Did you want to know God prior to His touch…His call on your life? I doubt it. You did just like the rest of us hypocrites, you went about your life doing the same things day in and day out with no more thought about eternity than your thoughts about the economy or even what you would eat for lunch!

But, you know, when your heart got a crack in it….when something got your attention to come around to see that there was more to life than hunting and football, then you began to look for a meaning, for a purpose. You felt that things wouldn’t be enough, stuff wasn’t important any more just because you had more expensive stuff than someone else! This life…this time that we have only has meaning and purpose when you give it to the One that Created it, so that He can make you into what you were…what you ARE supposed to be. You can’t do it alone. You can’t be “the one” in your life or anyone else’s life until you allow the One into yours!

Yes, today is today and tomorrow is still yet to come but if you give your heart, your life to God and ask Him to make you into His idea of what or who you should be then your tomorrows will never end. Even if your life here does, the effect that your words, your actions, your character had on even one person may go farther than you ever could to make an impact on more people than you will ever know on this side of Heaven. Consider that and think about His Names.

Time….


Time is measured by us in seconds and minutes and hours, then days, weeks, months and years. If you wish to measure longer periods of time then it can stretch into much more than that. What is my point for writing this today? Well, as you may have noticed, time is slipping away at an ever increasing speed. Some of the younger folks may not see it that way, but the older that you get it seems to speed up monthly. Why is that? If you have children it is easy to see it happen because you see your children grow up and they do it so fast it seems. The older they get, the faster the years seem to go by, at least for you. They don’t see it that way, at least not yet.

Time ticks by us without us really feeling it go. It just floats away like a cloud of smoke and you can’t get it back. The time that it takes for me to write this is time that I will never have again. It has been about six hours or so since I woke up this morning, but that time is gone. I can’t re-live it and I can’t go back and reclaim it.

God can see it as though as it began just a moment ago. He can see yesterday as it was and He can see tomorrow before we ever get to it. He can even go all the way back to the beginning of Creation and go through all of that again if He wishes to. Why? Because He is God!! He lives outside of time, so He can see the end and the beginning any time that He wishes to.

Why am I pointing all of this out? You might think that you wish to do what God does and go back and change things in your past so that things will be different in your future. Sounds great doesn’t it? The problem with that is that depending upon the size of the change, your life will be so dramatically different that you might not recognize it. One other problem with it is that you might not like the “future” that you end up with. Then what do you do? Small changes have big consequences, big changes have BIG consequences, so you might change the person that you marry or the subjects that you study in school and the grades that you got.

These are the temporal consequences that we could not and should not be able to change. God gives us our life as it is because He knows the end result and He knows that it will work out for you and for Him and His kingdom. It is a subject that is fun to imagine about. The money that you could’ve made if you had done things this way or the difference that marrying the “right” person might have made in your life. These are things that we can imagine but that God knows would be best left alone and thankfully we don’t have the capability to do this. We see it portrayed in science fiction films and shows many times, but it would be so easy to really cause real problems if it were possible, so thankfully it is not.

Your life and your purpose are in God’s hands and the effect that your life has is dependent upon who is in charge of your life. Is it God in your heart and in the driver’s seat or is it you? Considering that you don’t know everything and I don’t either, I would rather have God in the driver’s seat because everything will work out according to His plan, which is always the plan that counts. The only thing that is necessary for each of us to do is to believe in Jesus’ atonement for you and me and the sins that we have committed, no matter how bad they might’ve been.

When we accept Jesus as our Savior, then we need to decide to put Him in control of our lives and the leave the outcome in His hands. When we do that, His Kingdom will be glorified and we will have eternal life with Him. It is a winning combination!

Think about it, pray about it and seek Him because when you do, the best will come to you in eternity.

Who is this Man?


 “Nobody knows the exact date of His birth, and yet His birth has divided all of history to A.D. and B.C. He never, so far as we know, wrote a book, and yet more books have been written about Him than any other person. He never painted a picture or composed any poetry or music that we know of, and yet He has been the inspiration of the greatest music, art, and poetry that the world has ever known. He never had any formal education, yet more schools, colleges, universities, and seminaries have been founded in His name than any other person who ever lived.” – part of a devotional that I received from Love Worth Finding Ministries

Of course the man in the reference above is Jesus the Christ, our Messiah, the Son of the Living God. His influence on the world is undeniable, whether you believe in Him as the Messiah or not, and the effect that Christianity has had in the past two thousand years is polarizing. So, what is it about Him that makes people either love or hate Him and His followers? There is not middle ground concerning Christianity either, it is black and white.

He said it Himself, “And if the world hates you, know that it hated me before you.” John 15:18; so why does the world truly hate Christianity and Jesus in particular? Because of many things which don’t have much to do with the religion, such as His race and because His blood had to be given in order for us to be justified and sanctified by belief in what He did for us. Those are the two main points that I have noticed about those who are against believing in Him. What has that got to do with anything?

Just because He was born into the Jewish culture and God required a blood sacrifice to atone for sin? Big deal! The sins of Adam and Eve were covered by the blood of an animal that had to be killed in order for them to have clothing and from that point on the blood of an animal was required as the sacrifice of atonement for sin. The only difference is that on the cross, the perfect Son of God is the One Who gave His life as a ransom for all, not just a few but all! That is the part which the world wants to reject. Nobody wants a gift that cost that much to be given to them for free, everyone wants to earn it, but there is nothing that you or I can do to earn and be worthy of His sacrifice! Everything was done on the cross that needed to be done and we can’t add to it!

No amount of work on your part or mine will aid in any way your entrance into heaven. Accepting Jesus as your Savior and Lord and believing in what He did for you and for everyone else is all that is necessary. Though, you will be led to do more after you are saved by His grace it will not add anything to your entrance into Heaven except that you may bring a few people with you. Please, pray about the scriptures that point to Him in the Old Testament while you read them, then look up the references in the New Testament that show the fulfillment of the Old. Once you realize that He was there from the beginning as the Son, until He came as the Son of Man and He will come as the King of Kings, you will know your Savior is Jesus the Christ as the Son of the Living God!

 

 

Is your culture affecting your religion?


In many areas of life, it seems that culture trumps religion, regardless of which country you might live in. What kind of religion do you practice? Today, it seems, every religion is acceptable in the public square except Christianity! It doesn’t matter if you are a practising witch or an Imam, you are accepted by everyone as long as your religion doesn’t involve belief in Jesus!

Culturally we are all accepted in the grand scheme of things, nobody seems to have any trouble with other cultures as long as they are not trying to impose their culture on others. So, why is it that we label Christians with that sort of label? Like they are pushing something on everyone around them? According to God’s Word, no one is going to Heaven apart from Jesus, period. It doesn’t matter what cultural background you have, where you were born or what color your skin might be. The fact is that you need Jesus in your life and His Spirit dwelling inside your heart.

The only way that you get this is by believing in Jesus as the Son of God and not just some prophet. A prophet cannot get you into Heaven. Being a member of a church or a religious organization will not save your soul. Giving your time, your money or a few hours per week while attending church services will not save your soul! The only Savior that we have who can save us is Jesus. Belief in Him and the atonement that He bought for us on the cross is the only way to be saved from the condition that you are in.

Money, power, prestige, the size of your house or the car that you drive makes no difference at all! Because, when you die, someone else is going to get all of it! None of it goes with you and it makes no difference to God how rich you were or how poor you might have been in the world’s eyes. Like the beggar who went to Paradise and the rich man went to hades, the ground is level in front of God. If your heart is right with God and you have faith in Him and His Son, then you will be richer than anyone on Earth. If you have not accepted Christ and the grace that has been extended to you through the death and resurrection of Jesus, your money will not make any difference and neither will your nation of birth. Jew or Gentile, we are all the same when we stand in front of Almighty God.

You will be asked, “What did you do with My Son and why should you come through the gates of Heaven?” If Jesus puts His arm around you and says “This one belongs to Me, Father.”, then you will have nothing to worry about. If you hear the words, “Depart from Me, I never knew you.”, then you are to be most pitied. Your eternity will be a long, hard, and painful one.

Consider this and pray about your life and your eternity, please.

 

What happened?


Many have seen my post about cults and yet no one seems to like it at all, well….tough!
There are people in our world today who need to hear it and if those of us who have been called don’t say it, who will!! I am not putting one religion down, even though it may seem like it at first, the problem is that idolatry and cultism have entered the church regardless of the denomination and we need to root it out and get our eyes focused on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith and the Only way to get to Heaven!

The times that we live in are desperate because the time of our age is coming to a close and it is no time to wait around thinking about our loved ones or how much money can we make or which car we might purchase today or tomorrow, there might not be a tomorrow for you or your friends or even those that you love. Time is not guaranteed to anyone, we have today, right now! We are not guaranteed even an hour from now, if the grace of God gives us the rest of today, how many people can you tell about Jesus? Will you?

Yes, I have been posting many “sermons” here, some of them were the words that I used in the church where I preach but it seems that the most effective that they were was when I put them here, except for this last one preceding this. No one wants to be told that they are doing something wrong, nobody wants to hear a sermon or the words from a “preacher”, telling them that the way they are living is wrong according to God’s Word and His laws. I am writing today to let those who frequent here that my messages are going to be a bit more “to the point” from this point on. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. You can always go to another website which sounds more religiously tolerable and doesn’t hurt your feelings.

I don’t know you, but God does, and He is watching you. He knows who you are, where you are and where you were last night or last weekend. You cannot hide from Him, so don’t try. If your life has not been lined up with His teaching in His Word, then you need to get down on your knees and thank Him for keeping you alive long enough to realize it. Then, you need to ask His forgiveness and ask Him to cleanse your heart and soul and come into your life so that you can live for Him for the rest of your life. Many people seem to be denying that the Bible is true, many of them don’t believe that anything in it is true. For those people, I can only say that “I am sorry you feel that way”, because for people who have closed their minds to the Truth no amount of preaching will help.

A closed mind is like a piece of granite, nothing can get into it but the body which is attached to a closed mind can do a lot of damage. In James 3:6 it is written that the “And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.” Why is the Bible against someone with a closed mind and a hard heart? Because with their tongue, their character shows itself to the world through their words and once those words are out there, they cannot be taken back or erased. The effect my be local to the person which hears the words, or in the case of the Internet it may go global and be such a devastating thing as to be like a raging fire which destroys towns and forests and lives.

It is something which we must guard against. If my words have hurt your feelings, whoever reads this, I apologize. The fact remains that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and if you want to be there you need to come to Him soon. God loves you and cares for you, realize this and come to Him like the prodigal son and humble yourself before Him. He will soothe the pain and the anguish in your life and make your life useful to His kingdom, so that you will enjoy His Kingdom for eternity.

Think about it and pray to the only One who really cares and loves you, no matter what you have done.

Are you ready for Jesus?


One time I told someone who came into the place where I worked that I was ready for Jesus to come and the very next words from their mouth was, “I am not, I have too much I want to do before He comes back.” The attitude expressed in this statement is that life is over when He comes! Why would you think that? If you belong to Jesus, your life will never end so when you arrive in Heaven so your life is really just beginning.

Why would someone think that life ends when Jesus comes? If you are a sinner and there are some things that you want to do that Jesus wouldn’t approve of then from that point of view, I can understand. But, if you don’t belong to Jesus when He comes to call the church to Heaven then you will be left behind during the worst time on the Earth.

During the flood of Noah’s day, when the rain and the fountains of the deep broke open, the people of Earth drowned except for the eight that God saved on the ark. During the Tribulation, there will be seven seals, seven bowls and seven trumpets with each one being a specific plague or punishment for those on Earth. The difference during this time will be that there will be some who will still be able to come to faith in Jesus, although it will be hard and dangerous to do so.

Many people think that God will remove the possibility of salvation when He takes the church to Heaven, but I believe that He will not do that even though faith and believing in Jesus will be dangerous for those living at this time. This belief is mine, and it has not been taught in seminaries because they have been taught that the Holy Spirit will be taken from the Earth before this time. God may do this but I think that He will give everyone who chooses not to worship the Antichrist the opportunity to learn about and come to faith in Jesus the Christ.

My own beliefs may have been influenced by some of the books that I have read about the end times, but also by my own prayer and study of God’s Word, but your own life and the message that you get from the Bible is yours. The truth contained in God’s Word is God’s Truth and since He cannot lie, then I accept it as such. The writers who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the words were men, but those forty men could not have produced a book of such accurate and truthful proportion without the Spirit’s guidance. Especially the books from over a thousand years before Christ, which describe His death on a cross exactly and all of the other prophecies which point to Jesus which were written so long before He came into the world. Men could not have made this stuff up and then it came to pass!

Please, if you are a Christian get into a deeper relationship with Him and serve Him in some way until He comes. If you are not a Christian, but you are searching for meaning in your life then look to Jesus and read about Him in the Bible. Ask Him to show you what you need to know and Who you need to follow, the answer may surprise you.

Are you a child of God?


Jesus_Loves_UHave you given your heart to Jesus? Have you even considered it? You know, when Jesus told the disciples to let the children come to Him, he was talking about the little children. But, now He is speaking of the children in faith. Babes in Christ, like you may be. We are to come to Him, just as we would to our Earthly father or brother for comfort and help and to feel loved!

He cares for each of us, whether we have given our heart to Him or not. He will give you love and grace even more when you are His child, even though many say that they don’t want to be a child of God we are really His anyway because He is the Creator. Many of the things which we have been taught in school, and sometimes at home, tell us that we are worthless and that we came from an ape. We are not responsible for our actions because we are just animals and prone to do things by instinct.

 

This is not the TRUTH!!! We are created by God, destined to do His will in our lives. Whether we choose to do so or not is our choice, but the path is there. Yes, whether we choose to follow it is our own choice. It is not forced upon us nor is it required that we do so. God has a plan for your life, but you do still have a choice and that is what separates us from animals of all kinds. The choice to do or not do things based upon what we know in our hearts is right or whether we choose to do them because of our selfish and prideful side.

Also, the price for your salvation has been paid in full already. You don’t have to do anything except claim it and ask for Jesus’ forgiveness. He loves you enough that He willingly gave His life so that each of us could come into the family of God. He wasn’t forced into that decision, yet it was required so that mankind could be reconciled and justified by Him to God the Father. There is no other way into Heaven, no back door or loophole, only Jesus can let you in and He will if you follow Him daily and do the things that you know that you should do as a child of God.

I don’t mean that you have to have a worldwide ministry, just being who you are in Christ everyday is enough but if you are called to do more or be more than that don’t refuse or hesitate. Just follow Him and He will give you the power and the ability to do that which He has called you to do.
