Wood and nails

What symbolizes our Savior and the salvation that He bought with His blood? The crucifixion. Two pieces of wood and three nails or spikes depending on how you look at them. Our Savior was trained as a carpenter and He was very good at it I’d imagine. Considering that He built a bridge for us to get to Heaven with very little lumber, three nails, and His blood and His Life. This was no small sacrifice. His humanity allowed Him to die on the cross for our sins but it was His sinless life that paid the penalty for all of humanity’s sins. No mere human could do that.

God is the God of the impossible. Most people think that forgiveness for their sins isn’t possible but God forgives if you can forgive yourself and accept His grace and mercy for your sins. Sometimes, forgiving ourselves is the hardest part of accepting forgiveness. Sometimes, forgiving others is easier but not by much. Many times it takes humbling yourself and asking God to help you forgive yourself or others for the hurts and the pain that has been caused by sin. Regardless of how long ago it was or how deeply the hurt went, forgiveness has to be given before it is fully received.

God gives us grace and mercy, neither of which we deserve, but He gives them to us because He loves us. He has loved us since before creation began. I pray that all of you who read this will seek Him out to be your Savior. Your eternal home depends on your salvation and you can only get that by accepting Jesus as your Savior.

Do you worship God?

Some of us actually do worship the God Who is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe because He is God in the Bible and because He made it possible for us to be saved from hell by our belief in Jesus. But there are some people who make god in their own image and likeness. They don’t like God from the Bible. They want him to be manageable and understandable. When you do this you are worshiping your own idol. A god that you made in your mind that you can relate to and one that isn’t so “all-powerful and all-knowing”. In other words, you have placed god in a box that you can understand and call on when you want him or need him but otherwise, you can push him away and not think about him until it is necessary.

God never gave up on humanity so why should we give up on Him? If He was like us we would be in a lot of trouble. More than that, He would’ve started over many more times than He did. But…He didn’t. God loves you and me and every person on Earth but He doesn’t like our sins at all, whatever they may be. He especially doesn’t like being “made in our image” because we are bringing Him down to our level and God doesn’t share His glory with anyone especially an idol that we create to “represent Him”.

God is THE Creator and our God. Nothing should ever be above Him and there is no representation of Him because none of us knows God well enough to try to do such a thing. Worship Him, follow Him and give your heart to Him because one day you will bow to Him whether you know Him or not and it will be too late.

Love the Lord…

Are you stuck in a rut?

Many of us get into a rut in life. We think that we can’t change…even that we will never be able to change, but that is not what God says. When you give your heart to Jesus and become a Christian the Holy Spirit comes in and changes your heart and you are made into a new creation in Christ. You are not the old person. You are not the person that you were before Jesus came into your life. If you meant it when you felt His touch and chose to give your heart to Him, repenting of your old ways of life, then you are a new creation…a new person in Christ.

There will be some days that Satan will try to make you believe that you are the same person that you were but you are not! Yes, the devil will try to trip you up and make you stumble back into old habits and sometimes he will succeed but Jesus is there with you and you can rise up into a new life with Him. It doesn’t matter how many times you fall, as long as you don’t stay down and believe the lies that Satan is telling you through your family or “friends”. God is stronger and able to bring your life into a better place than where it was.

Keep your eyes and your heart pointed toward Jesus and follow His example. You can’t be as perfectly holy as He was but you can strive toward that goal with the Holy Spirit’s help one step at a time. One day at a time. Thank God for today and move into it with confidence knowing that God loves you and that He will be with you regardless of what you hear around you from family or so-called “friends”. You don’t have to stay stuck in that rut of depression and despair. Take Jesus’ hand and get up and walk with Him into your new life every day and your way will become more sure and real than you ever thought possible.

Amen

Just before the Trumpet

Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the place,
Not a creature was praying, not one on their face.
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care,
In hopes that Jesus would not come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not one ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap,
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.
When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray,
I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!
The light of His face made me cover my head,
It was Jesus returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life which He held in His hand,
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
When He said “It’s not here” my head hung in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love,
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound,
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late,
I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.
In the words of this poem the meaning is clear,
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There’s only one life and when comes the last call,
We’ll find that the Bible was true after all!
