The Angels of God announced His birth to the mother and the man who will raise Him and on the night of His birth a host of them announced to the shepherds that Christ had been born in Bethlehem. Yet, the priests of God did not recognize the signs of His birth. Why? Were they even looking for Him to come?
They were looking for their Messiah but they didn’t expect Him to come as a baby and they didn’t pay attention to the Scripture saying that “he shall be called a Nazarene”. No prophet says this directly but that the Messiah would be counted as someone of low estate and despised by men. He was looked down on because of His hometown of Nazareth in the district of Gallilee although He was born in Bethlehem, the city of David.
God the Son came as a baby because He needed to live as one of us. He had to be tempted as one of us and feel pain and sorrow and grief as one of us so He could completely identify with our weaknesses. He did all of these and much more during the time that He was here to fulfill the prophecies about Him and to bring a message to those who would listen. He healed many diseases and raised some from the dead and He restored the sight to some, hearing to others, and the ability to speak to others.
Jesus also multiplied a boy’s lunch to feed over five thousand people and He calmed a storm on the sea just by saying “Peace, be still”. He even walked on the water to come to His disciples while they were in that storm. No ordinary man could do these things! He was much more than a prophet, He was the Son of God and the Savior of the world!
In Psalm 23, David writes that God is always with us regardless of where we may be or the kind of trouble we might be in at the time. God loves us whether you have known this in your life or not, He truly does. He has known you since before He formed the universe so He knows your problems and your abilities. He knows your fears and your hopes. He knows how you feel right now and why you feel that way. Regardless of the time of day or night, God is always near. If you haven’t asked Him to be your Savior yet, He is still nearby waiting to hear your prayer and your cry for Him to answer. Don’t turn away from Him because someone tells you that He isn’t the God Who formed you. Because He is the Creator and your Savior and He knows you better than you know yourself. He loves you more than your mother or your father do and He can heal your broken heart and mend your sorrows no matter where they come from.
Read it in the New Living Translation and you can feel God’s love for you. I pray that you will seek Him as your Savior soon.
1 The LORD is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along the right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley, a
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
5 You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the LORD
Have you ever been outside in the heat of summer and you got so thirsty you felt that you couldn’t go on without a cool, glass of water? That is exactly the feeling that David is conveying in this Psalm! As His creation and His redeemed followers, we should seek Him, in the same way, every day! One day of attending church services in the morning or evening just isn’t enough. Our life as Christians should reflect our need for Him and His Presence every day. As Paul wrote, “we should press onward to our heavenly calling”
This life and the daily grind that it is should not be our only goal. Having enough “stuff” or enough money or a bigger house than our neighbor shouldn’t be our goal in this life. If you don’t know Jesus as your Savior those things could be your goal and sometimes you might feel that it is enough. But consider just how short this life is and the things that we strive for are temporary. Your life and mine only last for seven or eight decades, some do live for nine or even ten by the grace of God, but who gets your stuff when you are gone? When God calls your soul into His Presence, what happens to your house or your car or your land? Will it stay in your family or will it be sold to someone else?
Our life should reflect Who we are. Do we belong to Jesus and He to us? Could someone who doesn’t know you tell by your speech and your actions if you are truly born again through His blood? Would there be enough evidence in your life and mine to convict us of being Christians? If there is any doubt about this in your mind, you might want to pray about it today and seek out the proof of it. If the proof isn’t there then you need to get in touch with your Creator and have a serious heart to soul meeting with Him.
Our life here is just a practice session for our eternity. Whatever you do here, whether it is for yourself or for God, makes a significant difference in where you will spend eternity. Your life and mine aren’t much more than a period at the end of this sentence. Especially when you compare, say 100 years to even one million years. One million years is only one drop in the time frame of eternity. We look at life and all of the little things in it as being precious to us because what we experience today won’t be repeated again. Your footsteps never touch the same parcel of grass again, no matter how many times you walk over your pasture in this life.
Make absolutely sure of your place in God’s Kingdom here and now because the tick of the clock only passes this place during that tick and it will never be here again.
You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.
You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you will be put to death.
Yet not even a hair of your head will perish.
But they will treat you like this because of My name, since they do not know the One who sent Me.
Jesus told His disciples these words of prophecy 2000 years ago and they are coming true almost every day in the news and in our world today. Many more will come true very soon, so I ask you to please read these verses and chapters, seek out the Lord as your Savior, repent of your sins and be saved by the name of Jesus and belief in Him. Amen
In the world that we live in, it seems impossible to say those words but if you are a Christian and you know without a doubt that you are saved by the blood of Jesus…then you should feel that joy! Why? Because no matter what your circumstances are here on Earth, your future, your eternity is sealed in Jesus Christ. All of us who believe in Him for our salvation have that assurance in Him that our home is secure regardless of what happens here on Earth. If we are here when the Trumpet sounds we will meet Him in the air. If we are dead, we are already with Him but our body will be united with us at that time. Our home and our hope is in Him and His promises are sure and they always have been.
God does not lie so when you read about a life in Heaven with Him for eternity it is true! We will work for Him and with Him for all of that time because for us time won’t mean anything from that point on. Some people may think that it will be boring but the disciples weren’t bored during His ministry for three years and I don’t think we will be bored or unsatisfied while we are in His Presence. God loves each of us with a love that, right now, we can’t understand.
But, if you can imagine a river with living water flowing in it which quenches every thirst and every desire that you could have and just drinking from it does exactly that! Every desire, every want or need or every sorrow quenched and filled to overflowing just by drinking it or stepping into it…how unbelievably wonderful that would be!
The living water you experience when you read His Word. Maybe not as complete and unbelievable as the river in heaven but if you allow God’s Spirit to show you what His love is really like it could be. Most of us today tend to read a few verses or maybe a chapter or two and listen to a preacher tell us what has been laid upon his heart to say about these verses and then we close the Bible and go home. What a waste! God’s Word has so much to say until reading it every day for nearly a decade I’ve not scratched the surface yet. I always find something new or fresh when I read it.
If there was a fountain on Earth which had living water in it, there would be wars fought for its possession. That is why it is only available to those who go to Heaven. Jesus died to pay the debt of our sins so that we could have a chance to be in Heaven and have salvation through Him. Please don’t turn away from the call of the Spirit when you feel it because you may not get another chance.
