The most important [commandment],” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31
So why can’t the church live these Commandments today? Many people are hurting today, all over the world, because the Church isn’t doing this. We give money to corrupt organizations who take advantage of the people that we are trying to help and then we wonder why our donations didn’t help.
People have heard sermons from it and heard or seen quotes from it but so many people don’t understand it at all. Many people don’t understand it because they have no idea what to think about it.
It’s not just a book. It’s the Word of God and it’s His testimony about His love for humanity. Whether you believe that the Earth was created six thousand years ago or 4.5 billion years ago, God had a hand in its design. Every element is balanced in such a way that if the ratio was off by a few percent we wouldn’t exist. That kind of precision doesn’t happen by chance.
The Bible also tells us the history of the Jewish people and their struggles. But if you look at it from a little bit farther out, it is God’s love story for all of us. He loves us so much that He sent Jesus as the ultimate passover Lamb to pay the penalty for all who will accept His grace and mercy through belief in Him. In our belief in Jesus, we are sanctified and forgiven so that we can come into God’s presence as adopted sons and daughters.
I say to the Lord, You are my God; give ear to the voice of my pleas for mercy, O Lord! O Lord, my Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; do not further their evil plot, or they will be exalted! Selah As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them! Let burning coals fall upon them! Let them be cast into fire, into miry pits, no more to rise! Let not the slanderer be established in the land; let evil hunt down the violent man speedily! I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy. Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name; the upright shall dwell in your presence.
