Our veterans have given their lives willingly, we think, but do we as a nation take care of those who come home from the wars? Do we help them translate their skills from their service to a civilian job? If we aren’t doing at least that, we don’t deserve their sacrifice. They deserve our respect and our help in anything that they do, whether it is fighting cancer, finding a job, or just dealing with the consequences of being in a combat zone.
How much does it take to help someone come home to a society that cares very little about their sacrifice? Life after service in whatever branch they served in can be very difficult. Adjusting to life without a limb or living with PTSD is difficult for anyone but when you have to go through a VA doctor or clinic to get your treatment…it’s like trying to hit a baseball with a broken bat. You swing and miss, you wait and wait and then you are told that the doctor has gone home for the day…come back tomorrow.
I pray for all of our Veterans and their families because our “government” has dropped the ball on so many fronts regarding their treatment after their service. There are organizations that do the work that our government and the respective branches should be doing but they can’t keep up. Please keep our service-men and women in your prayers because they deserve so much more than a pat on the back and “Thank you for your service”.
