Well folks! I am about to begin my summer vacation. Three years of high school complete. It is around this time of the year that many events will take place. Specifically, these are the months to observe patriotic days and reflect on Christian principles. Below I will outline foree major projects and events that will be coming over the next few months.
Remembering George Floyd (2020)
Wednesday, May 25 will mark two years since the senseless killing of Mr. George Floyd. I remember viewing the video a few times, witnessing the violence that erupted. The eerie silence of a nationwide lockdown was broken by the loud cries of a nation wounded by a broken justice system founded on systemic oppression and racism.
In commemoration of this solemn and sorrowful occasion, I will post three compositions that reflect the theme of accountability, the plague of generational sin, and communal reparation and repentance.
Satan Visits The Church
Last month, I previously released a presentation giving a brief summary of a creative writing project I initiated with my school’s Christian club. The title of this piece is called “Satan Visits the Church”. In short, this project is not an ordinary play, nor a poetic or artistic composition. It is rather a written documentary which compiles the testimonies of a family in poverty, eyewitnesses, and other parties who document various accounts of a scandal that erupts in a local Catholic church. All of which takes place during the first two months of the coronavirus pandemic.
Originally, the plan was to finish the project by May 11, 2022, approximately two weeks before seniors graduate. However, due to a heavy workload, and being home sick a lot this semester, the project has been temporarily halted until May 18 to accommodate for final exams.
To allow time to produce a Biblically sound, God-inspired piece of literature, I will be using summer vacation to prayerfully devote substantial time putting together a solid first draft of the composition. Since my schedule for senior year will be light (as I completed a lot of my graduation requirements), the final, polished copy of this literary composition should be finished by December 2022. The piece will then be shared with the school’s literature magazine, be shared with some of next year’s graduates, and will be published to this blog.
Our Annual 9/11 Commemoration
Sadly, it’s that time of year again! A time to reflect on a bright sunny morning that was turning into a night of pain and communal anguish. A day that still resonates with my heart as a young adult citizen of this great nation. A day that has greatly shaped my Christian faith, and how I cherish the wonderful gift of spirituality in the depths of a hellish atmosphere founded on division and grave evil. It is a day that brings back memories: Memories of the flames that spreaded through the Twin Towers, the screams of sirens, and the cries of a nation tormented by the spirit of apathy. It is the day that reminds me of the need for community in the face of adversity, love in the face of hatred, and light in the shadows of darkness — it is the reminder that Jesus is, and remains victorious over Satan and the Gates of Hell. It’s time, as a people of faith, to prepare our hearts and minds for the sacred and solemn duty of pausing to commemorate the men and women we lost on 9/11.
Patriot Day is an annual day of remembrance, service, and prayer that is solely dedicated to marking the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and paying respects to those who sacrificed their lives to protect the very nature and freedom of our country. During quarantine, participants of the virtual God vs Satan movement compiled a slideshow production which featured at least four projects, a reflection, and a prayer. Below is a video of last year’s 20th annual 9/11 commemoration collage.
This year, we are taking our annual commemoration to WordPress! This year’s commemoration will feature various prayers and projects from the virtual God vs Satan movement, as well as additional words from bloggers that will be sent to me via email. More information will come in late July or early August.
Lord fill me with your Spirit. Grant me the skill, intelligence, knowledge and craftsmanship to devise artistic designs with Kingdom excellence. Magnificent Creator God, let me be a creative vessel for your good works. Amen!
